She came in layers.

A brushstroke that refused to stay where I put it. Torn paper that looked better crooked than straight. Gold that caught the light only after I stopped chasing it.

She became a reminder that strength doesn't always announce itself. Sometimes it whispers. Sometimes it smiles. Sometimes it carries a scar so beautifully you'd mistake it for part of the design.

I don't know her name.

Maybe that's because she's borrowed a little something from all of us.

The woman who stayed.

The woman who left.

The woman still becoming.
